Blacksaddle Starbuck

We bought Blacksaddle Starbuck in 2000 after a 5 year search for the perfect colorful Morgan stallion to add to our breeding program. Our program was and is based on the classic typey, working Morgan with the endearing Morgan disposition we had fallen in love with. We wanted those qualities with the added bonus of color. While a friend was looking at a yearling colt of his that was for sale and taking video of him for me she got video of Starbuck too. I couldn’t believe this beautiful stallion when I saw him. Forget the colt, what about this 12 year old gorgeous golden metallic stallion? He wasn’t for sale at that time but I couldn’t get him out of my mind. He was what I had been searching for. I went to CA to see him and it was all over. He was Morgan TYPE in Gold! Jeanne Michaelis of Baymount Morgans and I went in together and bought him and shared him for several years. He stood to mares in CA and MT and went from 17 foals on the ground to 80 at the time of his death. One of his most beautiful and notable sons is the palomino, Farceur’s Fool’s Gold, aka Sonny, who now is contributing to Sweden’s Morgan horse gene pool. 15 of Starbuck’s foals have our Devine prefix. Starbuck’s bloodlines live on here through his perlino son Devine Spirit of Hope and his daughter Devine Kate’s Wild Honey.

It was an adventure, an honor and a privilege to know this horse and have the opportunity to help him contribute his wonderful qualities in color to the Morgan breed. We now have granddaughters to carry on his lineage and look forward to what they will produce for us here in the future. We will remember him fondly and forever. Thank you Starbuck!
